Career Counseling
What is it that you want to do with the rest of your work life?
Are you still trying to figure out what work/job/career you want? Many people begin by taking tentative steps into the world of work and figuring it out can be a big challenge.
You can save a lot of time, worry and money by getting some career counseling. It usually includes some testing to help to determine the potential occupational choices you have. Some of which you've probably not even considered. The test instruments are focused on career interests, leadership skills, personality characteristics and communication styles. Specific tests are selected with the individual client in mind. That’s followed by discussion about each area of interest, what to do to prepare to enter the field and what you can expect the day-to-day work to be like once you get there.
With my background as a school and career counselor I can assist you to do all of that. I have worked with many people who were:
- Planning to begin training for a new career
- Wanting to advance in their present field of work
- Needing/wanting to change careers
- Working with people with disabilities to determine the occupations in which they can best function, and often working with them to plan an educational program in which they can succeed
- Re-entering the workforce after raising a family
- Getting a divorce
- Planning for a phased retirement
Even though career counseling is only one facet of the counseling work I do, I have had a lot of positive feedback about how helpful it can be.
Some clients are specifically interested in career counseling while others are interested in improving or updating their skills in the field in which they are already working. Sometimes people need to learn new skills related to communications, setting boundaries or assertiveness to handle their work situation better. With those issues Brief Positive Therapy can help you to create the work future that you want.
